Cage Free / Free Roaming / Free Range
Cage-free is the MINIMUM - this is why:
HOWEVER The above video is misleading, because these labels are largely abused, and the chickens aren't running happily outside as the showed. Here's another perspective.:
This counts as 'free range':

Nevertheless, it IS better than cages. As we know Long is the way, and hard, that out of hell leads up to light. At minimum buy cage-free. Better still, look for the labels in the left column.

Video on lawsuit:

Perdue, the shmeat juggernaut, is making an effort to swindle consumers by slapping 'humanely raised' on their poultry products. Just like that, I shit you not. Although this egregious BS has been widely reported, and HSUS (Humane Society of the United States) has filed a lawsuit, the labeling currently persists. If you are looking to avoid shmeat, stay away from Perdue and their affiliate, Harvestland, like the plague.

This label should be on every egg carton, but isn't on any. It was proposed by HSUS (Humane Society of the United States) to inform consumers about what it takes to make their breakfast -- and this pertains to all eggs, even 'humane' ones, and those from the farmer's markets. Needless to say, the industry would prefer to keep you in the dark about this practice, and would never permit a mandate of this label. But if you are someone who prefers truth to willful ignorance, picture it there, on every package of eggs you buy.
To learn more, you can find my article about this here: The Dark Side of Egg Production.
This is another label you won't ever find, but it is perhaps the most important one on this page. Speaks for itself.
